  • What advantages are there to participating in a teen mentorship program?
There are many benefits to participating in a teen mentorship program. These include developing positive relationships with adults who can serve as role models, gaining new skills and knowledge, building self-confidence, and improving both academic and personal outcomes. By participating in a mentorship program, teenagers have the opportunity to learn and grow in a supportive environment that encourages their personal and professional development.
  • How much time is required to participate in a teen mentorship program?
The time commitment for participating in a teen mentorship program can vary depending on the specific program. Some programs may require a weekly or monthly commitment, while others may be more flexible. It's important to review the program details and requirements carefully before enrolling to ensure that you can commit to the necessary time and effort. Regardless of the time commitment, participating in a mentorship program can be a valuable experience for teenagers, providing them with the opportunity to learn and grow with the guidance and support of a trusted adult mentor.

  • What should I do if my child cannot attend a meeting with the mentor?
Please contact us at least 48 hours in advance of the scheduled session to reschedule your meeting.
  • How should mentors handle conflicts between family plans and meetings with their mentee?
Mentors should aim to enhance their mentee's family opportunities rather than replace them. They should work with their mentee to plan their meetings around the mentee's school schedule and be informed about any scheduled family events that could potentially clash with their meetings. Maintaining clear communication and planning ahead can help prevent conflicts and ensure a successful mentoring relationship.
  • Is it possible for me or other family members to join meetings between my child and their mentor?
The mentor-mentee relationship is unique because it is a one-on-one relationship. While teenagers may feel close to their parents, they also need to have friends outside of their family circle to talk to. A mentor serves as an adult friend for your child to discuss things they may be learning or any concerns they have. Your child can share their weekly plans and activities with you, and if you feel uncomfortable with any of their plans, you can let them know. Mentors will be understanding of your concerns and work to find a solution that works for everyone.
  • What can I do to ensure that the mentor will abide by my rules and regulations for my child?
To ensure that the mentor follows your rules and regulations for your child, it is important to have an open conversation with them at the beginning of the mentoring relationship. Discuss any expectations or guidelines you have for the mentor's interactions with your child. This upfront communication can help prevent any misunderstandings or conflicts that may arise later on. By establishing clear boundaries and expectations, you can work together with the mentor to create a positive and supportive environment for your child's growth and development.
  • If my child has misbehaved, should I still allow them to meet with their mentor?
It is important to remember that the mentor's weekly visits are not meant for disciplining your child. The mentor's role is to support and guide your child's growth and development. Denying your child time with their mentor as a form of punishment could create a conflict between you and the mentor, which could be counterproductive to your child's progress. Even if your child is grounded, they should still be allowed to meet with their mentor. It is important, however, to inform the mentor of the reason for your child's grounding. By maintaining open communication, you can work together with the mentor to create a positive and supportive environment for your child's development.
  • How frequently should I communicate with my child's mentor, and how much should I disclose about family concerns?
It is important to maintain communication with your child's mentor, but the frequency and level of detail will depend on your individual situation. If you have any concerns or issues that you believe the mentor should be aware of, it is best to reach out to them when your child is not present. This will allow you to have an open and honest conversation without your child feeling uncomfortable or embarrassed. The mentor is there to support your child's growth and development, so it is important to keep them informed of any significant family issues or concerns that may affect your child's well-being. However, it is also important to respect your child's privacy and not share any information that they may be uncomfortable with. You can work together with the mentor to find a communication style that works for everyone and helps create a positive and supportive environment for your child's development.
  • How can I get help if I have concerns or problems with my child's participation in the mentoring program?
